What Do You Want In Your New Home?
Buying a new home may be the largest financial investment you ever make in your life. It is only logical that you
will want the investment you make in your new home to be something that is beneficial to you and your family. When
you purchase a new home it should be a good investment from a financial standpoint as well as from a personal,
living standpoint.
Before you start exploring new homes you should write down everything you are looking for in a home. This will help
you when you go house hunting. Knowing exactly what your family is seeking in a new home can help you from becoming
side tracked with a home that will not suit everyone in your family.
Ask your family what they would like in a new home. Does your partner want a separate office, work room or
gardening porch? Maybe he or she would like to have a home that has a large yard for a garden? What would the
children like to have in their new home? They may want to have a bonus room where they can play video games, visit
with friends or simply hang out? Maybe you need to have a living room in your home? This would be the place where
you can take your unexpected guests so they do not have to wade through the toys or family craft projects that are
cluttering up the den or family room. Think about the holidays. Do you want to have a large dining room so everyone
can gather around and be together at meal time? You should also think about things such as bathrooms, pantry,
laundry room and garage. What exactly does your family want and need in a new home?
Once you have this list in hand it will be fairly easy to weed out the homes that will not suit your family. There
is no need to waste your time, or your agent’s time, looking at homes that simply are not suitable. Granted, some
things can be taken care of once you move into a new home such as changing the wallpaper and carpet. However,
adding on an extra bathroom or den is probably a project that will take a long time to complete. You should
probably try to find a home that already has the rooms you need.
When your family has a list of everything they would like to see in a new home, you can start looking for an agent
to represent you. It is very important that you choose an agent that works full time. This will ensure that he or
she is around when you have the time to look at homes. Make sure the agent you are hiring is experienced with
assisting home buyers. Does he or she know how to search the market for homes? Do they use the latest technology
features to stay up to date with what is going on in your local market? Will they have any inside information that
could be valuable to you such as knowing when a new home comes on the market before it hits the local papers?
Once you have your list of what you would like to have in a new home and a reputable agent you are ready to get
started. You will want to go through the mortgage application process to see what kind of home you can afford. This
will save you and your agent a lot of time. Your agent will be able to direct you to lenders in your area if you do
not know where to start.
